so, was this just an elaborate way for my subconscious to tell me that I wish I could control bees? it's true that whenever they're buzzing around me I wish they would obey when I demand that they "go away".
overall, I slept about six hours. I spent an hour this morning putting everything down on my map so I can try as efficiently as possible to see as much as possible. I finally left the hostel around 11am. I had two free events on my agenda that were Wednesday specific. Though in the interest of exercise and adventure I decided, what the hell, I'll go all the way down to Chinatown first and check out the vibe down there. the vibe was flat, lame, zero. going to Chinatown was a complete waste of my time. so I, earlier than expected, headed to the Clarke House museum, the first of two Wednesday specific free events. I had to wait an hour for the tour, which gave me time to read about what I wouldn't be seeing and to charge my phone. the receptionist was a doll, and after everything I got a recommendation for quality Chicago pizza... I can't remember the name of the place right now.
I went up to the Blackstone Hotel where they were featuring an art exhibit of a graffiti and hiphop artist from Brooklyn. Had lunch in a questionable park during which I finally got Gaby on the phone - she'll be down here this weekend!
the second Wednesday-specific free event was at a comedy club not too far from the hostel, ComedySportz. but I was so exhausted from the humidity that I decided to make a "pitstop" at the hostel so I could get my engines roaring again. well, suddenly three hours had passed and when the movie we were watching in the common room was finally over, I asked the girl across from me if she felt like checking out some free stand up comedy. we had a good time, actually. the walk there and back was as much fun as the show itself, and the show was funny! her name is Melissa and she's shopping for housing before her first year of grad school begins. she also has a complicated relationship and is digging Chicago.
that pretty much brings me to the present moment - showered and sleepy. for the record, I wouldn't give up riding my bike all day for anything and I feel better when I've showered after a day of riding instead of the morning of, but it's kind of depressing me that I look my best when I first get up and then spend the rest of the day with my hair matted to all sides of my head. oy.
mmmm, another yummy breakfast is just a night's sleep away!
