big drive to salt lake city

bought too much food for my travels again this morning. hit the freeway at 5.24am with 24 miles on the odometer from the day before. stopped roughly every three hours to fill the cars tank and to empty my own (too crude? sorry).

Oregon is incredibly beautiful. every turn was a new distraction.
Idaho was flat and annoying. I couldn't distract myself from it enough. too bad there's no reception there either so the magical iPhone could only rescue me so much.
Utah north of slc? meh. carrie showed me the good views tonight, though. the city is so big when you consider all the suburban areas. carrie was gracious enough to meet me at the airport when I dropped off the rental car, make me dinner, and even take me to the Amtrak station when it opened at 10pm (uh-huh..) so that I could buy my Denver ticket and beg for them to stash my bike box. the guy who agreed to stash my box for me until Tuesday morning, when I leave, was really sweet! he even still remembered how to spell my whole name when we met him by the storage units with my box. also, it's totally rad that I haven't had to buy any bike boxes yet - I got the original one from a shop in elk grove and got upgraded to a larger one in Portland. let's see how far I can ride this train! (funny?)

that was a long drive today. I never once felt dangerously sleepy though. whether it was the caffeine, adrenaline, sunshine, who knows? though, I'm glad I don't have to drive again for another few weeks when I leave Orlando.

tomorrow I plan to obtain an SLC bike map and float in the great salt lake!
